When it comes to travelling, every member is responsible for his or her own safety. We recommend that members follow some basic security measures outlined below.
The Community Share-a-Lift Car Share Scheme (the "Scheme") provides a journey sharing information service enabling members to make contact with each other for the purpose of sharing car, cycling, public transport, taxi or walking journeys.
The service is facilitated through an externally hosted website and database (the "Website"), developed for Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and partner organisations by Jambusters Ltd (collectively "We", "Us", "Our"). The Website is accessed at http://community.share-a-lift.co.uk.
Your agreement to comply with, and be bound by these Conditions, is deemed to occur upon your first use of the Website.
Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to Us. Because this website gathers certain types of information about you, We feel you should fully understand the conditions of how We may collect, disclose and use that information.
We may collect and disclose data in accordance with this Agreement and by virtue of your membership of the Scheme you expressly consent to any use or disclosure of your personal identification and other personal information, in accordance with this Agreement.
The following Data relating to you may be collected when registering on the Website:
Please contact your local Share-a-Lift Administrator.
It is when two or more people, who are making a similar journey, decide to travel together in one car rather than separately. It is aimed at getting vehicles off the roads by increasing the number of people in each car and also to help people, especially if they have no access to a car, get to the shops, doctors, hospital or leisure activities, for example.
Once you have completed the registration form your details will be entered into the database, and a 'post' of your anonymised offer or request will then be visible. If someone wishes to see further details for a trip that may be a good match, they must register on the system and be logged in. From the details it is then up to you to contact each other and formulate a car share agreement that is convenient to you all.
You do not have to over commit yourself at this stage. One option is to set a trial period and a date to review the feelings of all parties. This will enable you to stop sharing at this point if the arrangement doesn't suit any or some of the parties involved.
Below are some of the many reasons:
If you find a method which works particularly, please email the scheme administrator with details. These can then be added to the list of suggestions.
You must be fully insured and it is advisable to inform your insurance company that you are registered in a car share scheme. This should not incur additional costs. Most insurance policies cover you to carry passengers on your journey, as long as you don't charge your passengers more than the running costs of the vehicle.
The Staffordshire Community Share-a-Lift scheme:
If you have to return unexpectedly, and are a passenger or a driver, you must contact your car share partner(s) as soon as possible so that they can make alternative arrangements. As a passenger it is also essential for you to let the driver know you are ill so that they know not to wait if you are not at your pick up point.
If you find that car sharing does not suit you, you can stop at any time.
Visit www.transportdirect.info. You can plan your journey for door to door and compare car/train/bus/plane times and distances.
If you have any more comments or questions please email the Share-a-Lift Administrator and we can include answers to any frequently asked questions for other users.
